Before outlining details concerning Board Members we would like to explain the reason for this entry.

On a number of documented occasions the Staithe Board of Directors penned potentially defamatory comments about a Staithe non-Board freeholder alluding to dishonesty, untrustworthiness and aggressive, bullying behaviour on their part - yet was unwilling either as a group or individually to provide one single piece of evidence, despite said freeholder often requesting explanation and expressing distress at their behaviour, to support the Board Director's documented slurs. Eventually the Board privately, through their professional team, admitted to holding NO information whatsoever to suggest ANY dishonesty or illegal activity, although still no public apology or admission has been offered for their damage. In terms of their behaviour their legal/management teams excuse any bullying or pugnacious behaviour by Board members by suggesting that it is done in a "personal capacity" and not wearing their Board hats. On another occasion their advisors emphasised that the Director Guidelines were just that, only Guidelines.

Although perhaps emotionally and therefore against Staithe Director Guidelines of neutrality in the treatment, we believe these Directors have unreasonably chosen to defame a singled-out resident shareholding-owner of the Staithe. In what appears to be an attempt to excuse themselves, they portray themselves as voluntary helpers. Such a description may have the intent of invoking sympathy, victimhood or even a sense of understandable unfamiliarity of their professional roles and duties as Statutory Directors. However, being ‘volunteers’ can be no fall back or reason to distance themselves from what has occurred. In fact, a number of Board Members (detailed below), having been statutory directors at other firms including, in one case, numerous FTSE 100 and 250 corporate firms, certainly should be familiar with the majority of a Board’s basic responsibilities.

They therefore understand their actions in the light of law and the Chiswick Staithe Director’s Guidelines well. Indeed, one of said Directors Mukti Jain Campion, then Chair actually prepared the Director Guidelines in 2000, which included sections regarding impartial behaviour towards all Staithe Residents!!

This, given the previous and current Board self-portrayal, is an important point.

Details of Board members (past and present):

The above behaviour towards any resident/freeholder is unpleasant and with the treatment coming out of the blue, initially baffling. It led to questions as to whether those at the root of these baseless allegations of dishonesty and unbecoming slurs are simply trying to deflect attention.

Directors of the Board involved in Case Study 1 held senior management positions at work so must have been aware of the Company duties, responsibilities and obligations as Statutory Directors of the Board.

The same apparently "impartial" Chiswick Staithe (CSL) Board Director who threatened to "make [a freeholder] more sorry" flipping the bird.

According to Board narrative, this director and a previous Board chairman, were the victims of the bullying - yet the evidence shows the opposite.

Over the years there is no doubt many Staithe Board Directors have with good intentions dedicated many hours in promotion of our community. Yet without safeguards in place to protect ALL residents, privileges of community stewardship can be misused.

For example, the video clip below shows, despite repeated attempts to calm the situation down, a former Board Chairman shouting that these freeholders - ourselves - would "regret this day" and threatening to call the police for unknown reasons - perhaps in relation to necessary test drilling to verify the condition of the structure prior to works! Also, still Board Director at that time involved in the decision-making involving a freeholder's works, threating to "make [a freeholder under his directorship] more sorry!"

This pair later tried to do just that, apparently making false accusations that they were chased back to their homes. The Board held CCTV footage of their directors' behaviour which they refused to release and later threatened to delete. Fortunately footage covering the entire morning was held elsewhere to refute the baseless report.

Further unpleasant actions were taken by the group opposing these works which can be released, but think this for now makes the point. Most people would agree this is not on, yet disappointingly, the current Board publicly stated they found no problem with such behaviour.

Despite the Board regularly claiming to be the victims of bullying and subject to personal attacks, as they did even on this occasion, no evidence of their accusations was ever provided. Worse, any "normal" freeholder subject to this accusatory sort of behaviour has no forum to defend either this, negative rumours or character-slurs.

Sadly, the builder's comment of "crazy people" exemplifies his first experience of the Chiswick Staithe Board. Such conduct from the Board should not be acceptable.

Introduction to Our Board (and effective Landlords?) - current and previous

There are other videos displaying similar behaviour, showing other Board Directors, but feel the above adequately makes our point.

This is why we feel the CSL leadership structure needs a different model, which discourages, or better still makes impossible, those given privileges asserting control over others, espeically in this manner.
